MUST Museum

Faculty of Archaeology & Tourism Guidance’s Educational Museum

Introduction

The university has allocated two halls to display replica models of the most important archaeological art holdings necessary to familiarize students of archeology and tourism guidance with the history and civilization of Egypt from prehistory to modern and contemporary eras.

The university did not skimp on providing educational replicas covering all stages of study, amounting to three hundred and seventy pieces so far.It was possible to make a scenario to display the art pieces according to the historical sequence, The scenario begins by displaying the original size of Rosetta Stone, a replica of the original displayed in the British Museum in London, and the two-sided palette of King Narmer, used in explaining the latest attempts to unify the Old Kingdom, in addition to unique collection of King “Tutankhamun” objects, the most prominent of which is his golden mask. Also, the museum was lucky to have a replica of “Nefertiti” bust, and the most important pieces displayed inside the museum are as follows: 124 pieces from the Ancient Egypt epoch, 6 pieces from the Coptic era, 14 pieces referring to the Greco- Roman period and 18 replica from the Islamic era.

Note: It’s worthy to announce that the Museum is opened to the public visits upon prior requests,  from Saturday to Thursday 9 AM – 5 PM.

Social Media

A page for the museum has been created on social media (facebook) to display the various visits to the museum and some student training, as well as the restoration work and maintenance of artifacts that have already been done to the objects.

The college is also currently creating a link to the educational museum on its page on the university website that contains an explanation of the various pieces.

Museum visits:

The Museum is considered as a main visiting spot for Misr University for Science and Technology formal visitors. Among these visits are:

  • A visit of the College of Applied Health Sciences Technology.
  • A delegation visit of the University of Exeter.
  • Student Exchange visits.
  • Delegations visit of Cairo University.
  • Student Exchange visit of the Faculty of Medicine.
  • A visit of Cairo University students.
  • A visit of the College of commerce and management, and was accompanied by the head of the London school of commerce.
  • A visit of the new students from the Faculty of Archaeology.
  • Student Exchange visit of  Different Foreign Faculties.
  • Brigade of the Civil Protection.
  • A delegation of the Faculty of Medicine and an external delegation accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine
  • A French channel shot a documentary clip at our university museum.
  • Visits of the students of Faculty of Dentistry, Engineering, and foreign language and translation.          

Vision

The Museum of Misr University for Science and Technology is concerned to be an educational and edification museum, which helps in the educational process (for practical study at the college) and opens new horizons of knowledge for both students and university delegations. Also, it connects educational curriculum with museum exhibits, so our vision for the museum is to become a center for disseminating the history of our civilization.

Mission

The mission of the educational museum lies in making the museum one of the important educational institutions to serve the local community and to participate in its objectives by preserving and maintaining museum pieces, allowing researchers and scholars to benefit from it, and educating visitors of all ages.

The Location of the Educational Museum

The museum is currently located on the second floor of the Central Library building. It consists of a large main hall, a corridor, and an exhibition room. The museum is well-lighted and has a number of spotlights. It has a number of air conditioners, as well.

The museum presentation methods include:

  • Showcases of different sizes.
  • Wall mounts for display.

In addition to the open showcases, such as the “Pyramidal Group Model – Abu Simbel Temple – the Pyramid of Djoser.”

The general objectives of the educational museum programs

  • Practical training in the field of museums for students from different departments in the field of “Ancient Egyptian and Islamic Antiquities, Restoration and Maintenance of Antiquities and the Arabian Peninsula, and Tourist Guidance” in order to serve our community.
  • Providing educational and cultural experiences and opportunities through our exhibitions and also by elucidating the replicas presented for both children and adults through school visits that come to our college during the academic year, as well as other delegations whether from Egypt or foreign countries who visit our university in a framework of cultural exchange between Egyptian universities and others.
  • Educating visitors and satisfying their curiosity about the knowledge of ancient Egyptian civilizations.
