Faculty of Foreign Languages & Translation aims at being a center of excellence in research fields in Language, literature and translation by developing scientific research and achieving cultural integration and knowledge among various disciplines. The English department offers an M.A. program in the fields of Linguistics and Literature. The study in the MA program is based on a credit-hour system and is divided into two parts: First, the preliminary year in which the student has to pass 10 assigned subjects in his chosen branch of study divided on 2 semesters; then after passing the preliminary year, the student is liable to register the MA thesis. The faculty offers highly qualified professors that enhance the students’ research abilities and prepare them for further research stages.
The mission of the College is to improve the graduates linguistically, cognitively, and skillfully during their study. By having these skills, the graduates will be able to join many different fields in the job market. These fields include translation, education, tourism and media. Moreover, the mission does not exclude the scientific research and postgraduate studies. Scientific research is considered a key element to enable the faculty to prepare cadres capable of developing the syllabus of the faculty in order to be up-to-date with language learning strategies and the new methods of translation. One of the main elements in the mission is to recruit faculty members who have a great experience and efficiency in the academic structure. These faculty members have the ability to utilize technology in the education process by depending on an effective academic administration. This will assist the local community, preserve cultural identity, and help in reviving connection with other cultures.
The vision of the college of Foreign Languages and Translation in Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST) is to be a distinguished educational institution in the field of translation for the improvement of language, generally. In addition, it seeks to reach excellence and provide a proper education for competitiveness nationally and regionally. This will lead to serve the purposes of comprehensive development for a better nation.
In a world that has turned into a small village due to the advance in the means of communication, mastering foreign languages has become inevitable if one is to be up to the required global standards and contemporary cultural challenges. Deeply aware of the essential need for competent graduates in the field of teaching foreign languages and in the field of consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, the founders of MUST inaugurated, from the university’s inception, a B.A. program offered by the faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation. The faculty of Foreign languages and Translation is one of the most vibrant ventures supporting the wider community with competent graduates capable of meeting the rapid global changes.
The Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation incorporates 10 academic departments: English department, French department, German department, Italian department, Spanish department, Turkish department, Chinese department, Japanese department, Arabic department, and Greek department. Each department is equipped with qualified staff members who have wide expertise in teaching and in the practical field of translation. Our students deepen their knowledge via cutting-edge teaching and learning approaches which equip them with the necessary ethos to pursue a promising career at major domestic and international organizations.
Besides the undergraduate program, the English department has inaugurated a postgraduate program in the fields of literature and linguistics. Furthermore, the various faculty departments offer inclusive and interdisciplinary scholarships that develop innovative models for the study and assimilation of languages, literature, and translation.
Each student should apply within one month prior to the beginning of the study during Fall & Spring semesters. The academic year is divided as follows:
The university follows the credit-hour system. The holder of a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics or Literature from Egyptian universities or an equivalent has the right to apply for a master’s degree in one of the specified majors.
